Comfy Bums for New Mums

Love to introduce you to Comfy Bums for New Mums!

Being a new mother is a unique and wonderful experience. Many of us spend our first few days in hospital, which can be challenging being away from the comforts of home. The Queen Mary Maternity ward at Dunedin Public Hospital has 24 post natal beds, but only 7 of those beds have a soft lazy-boy type chair for feeding your new baby in. The others have uncomfortable metal chairs, which can be awkward and uncomfortable for new mothers, exhausted and just learning how to feed their new baby. This venture has been started in order to fundraise and donate funds to the Maternity unit (which is part of the District Health Board, therefore they rely on money from the Government) for the purchase of comfortable nursing chairs for as many beds as we can manage.

Our target is $5,000 and we’ve been doing well with some large and small projects last year, raising $1,500 to date. Projects included a stall to raise money and awareness at the Baby & Child Show, and proceeds from the Dodgy Little Shop auctions. So far this year, we are selling The Entertainment Book again, and we are part of Z’s Good In The Hood at Z Kaikorai Valley Road, Dunedin. We aren’t in any way affiliated with the public hospital, just Mums who want to help other Mums!
